About this event
Comparing and Contrasting Accessory Structure Regulations between the NFIP and State of Iowa
Local communities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) have adopted an ordinance that regulates new development in the Special Flood Hazard Area. This includes accessory structures such as detached garages and large sheds. Accessory structures are one of the few instances where the NFIP requirement is a higher regulatory standard than Iowa’s state rules. This webinar will highlight the similarities and differences between the NFIP requirements and Iowa’s floodplain management rules regarding the regulatory requirements for accessory structures and how local floodplain managers can assist in explaining the floodplain permit requirements.
