In 2008, Iowa's record flooding and severe weather, including an EF5 tornado, combined to create a disaster that stands as the ninth-largest Public Assistance event in U.S. history. Iowa communities worked hand in hand with state and federal government agencies and officials to first respond to, and then recover from, the widespread devastation.

Join us as we remember this historic disaster and showcase the accomplishments of our cities, counties, school districts, state agencies, and federal partners in implementing leading-edge recovery strategies and mitigation practices aimed at making Iowa more resilient to disasters. From tornado safe rooms in schools and public facilities, to structural and non-structural flood mitigation projects, to new approaches to watershed management and disaster resilience, this summit will provide a unique opportunity to learn from our past and look to the future.
