Post-Construction Stormwater Management

In 2014, the City of Ames adopted a Post Construction Stormwater Management Ordinance. As part of the new ordinance, the City has adopted the Iowa Stormwater Management Manual (ISWMM) and the Unified Sizing Criteria as the stormwater management standards for the City. Any best management practice (BMP) installation that complies with the provisions of the ISWMM, or future editions thereof, along with any locally adopted modifications, at the time of the installation shall be deemed to have been installed in accordance with the City’s ordinance.

Join us for our first webinar of 2018, where Tracy Warner, Municipal Engineer from the City of Ames will share with us how her community implemented a post-construction stormwater management ordinance, and their experience with it to date.

Tracy Warner, P.E.

Tracy is a native Iowan having grown up in the Fairfield, Iowa area before attending Iowa State University.  While at ISU, Tracy received a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and Minor in General Business.  She grew up around the Civil Engineering atmosphere as she worked for her father’s consulting engineering firm while attending school.

Tracy spent 3.5 years working on land development projects in the Virginia/Maryland/Washington D.C. area.  During that time, the stormwater requirements on the East Coast were significantly ahead of the Midwest so she was able to gain valuable engineering design experience including utilities, site design, stormwater management, water quality, and erosion/sediment control design.

Upon starting her Civil Engineer II position with the City of Ames in 2003, Tracy became involved with creation of the first version of the Iowa Stormwater design and specifications through SUDAS.  In 2005, Tracy was promoted to Municipal Engineer for the City of Ames where she has been involved with development review and infrastructure projects including transportation, water mains, sanitary sewers, and storm water.  Under Tracy’s direction, the City of Ames has adopted stormwater ordinances for Construction Site Erosion and Sediment Control and Post Construction Stormwater Management.

Tracy has being involved with and held various Board and committee positions with Heart of Iowa Chapter of Society of Women Engineers, Iowa Engineering Society, (state and national) American Public Works Association (APWA) and Iowa Stormwater Education Partnership.  In 2014 she served as the first female President of the Iowa Chapter of APWA.
